Promoting Healthy Pregnancy

The “Promoting Healthy Pregnancy” project (2011 – 2015) was funded and launched as a response to the Department of Health concerns about maternal distress and to midwives’ uncertainty about their specific role and responsibilities in providing care for women with maternal distress. The aim of the “Promoting Healthy Pregnancy” project was to gather evidence that could be used to create an antenatal intervention for the prevention or reduction of maternal emotional distress during pregnancy for women receiving midwife-led care, i.e. women with healthy pregnancies.

After the project, the screening component of the intervention was digitalized.

​

The project was funded by Regional Attention and Action for Knowledge (RAAK PRO, ref 2-014) 

PerinAtal menTal Health - PATH

Becoming a parent is an exciting time, but brings many challenges affecting parents’ mental health. Illnesses such as postnatal depression however, are not always recognized and treated. The proposal of the resolution of the Flemish Parliament regarding timely detection and treatment of antenatal and postnatal depression recommends raising the attention for emotional wellbeing of pregnant and postpartum women, to increase the knowledge of healthcare professionals and to implement adequate detection.

The project (2019 - 2023) was funded by Interreg 2 Seas Mers Zeeën (grant number 2S05-002) - The Province Antwerp Service for Europe, Department of Economy, Local Policies and Europe (grant number BBSPATH 1564468860780)

What's Up Mama

This is the Flemish adaptation of the original Dutch WazzUp Mama tool. 

 

The systematic and methodological approach of the original Dutch intervention (development) was repeated.

Childbirth is a major life-event and becoming a mother is regarded as a liminal experience, with the birth functioning as the key transition momentum. Women can experience birth with feelings varying from great happiness, strengthening and healing to suffering and trauma. Birth can be thus both powerful and vulnerable. Evidence highlights that many women experience childbirth as a negative or traumatic event, with a worldwide prevalence of 5 to 50%. The aim of the project is to find ways to prevent, minimise and resolve birth-related trauma, and to optimise emotional and psychological outcomes for parents and families and accelerating the translation of knowledge into best practices that can be shared across Europe.
